Rainfall – Giveaway

I finished up this book earlier this week and pretty much begged the Author to PLEASE sponsor a copy as a giveaway in the #25daysofgifts happening right here on the blog this month and she happily agreed. So we are officially kicking off this years #25daysofgifts with a book. How much better does it get than that?!

But in all seriousness. TRUST me on this one. This is a book that you are going to want to add to your book list and probably even read a few times. It made me laugh, sob ugly tears and even want to punch someone in the face at one point. No seriously, that one character is a real douche.

Unlike most of the “romance” books out there these days with insecure leads this lead is strong and confident I have no idea how she managed to get through what she did, I think that if I were in the situation I’d have bailed. Maybe. It’s hard to explain without giving away the whole story but seriously. Remember how “Making faces” was THE book to read this year? I’m pretty certain this one tops that. Actually I AM certain this tops that.

Melissa delves right into the not so much talked about disorders such as Alzheimer’s in the case of Paige’s father and the books leading man has D.I.D (dissociative identity disorder). It’s a heartbreaking story of TRUE love and how things don’t always go as you plan for them to. This is a love story that gives even Sparks’ novels a run for their money.

And to top it all off? The Author is local. Yup. A jozi lovely.
Add this one to your shelf. Just do it.

  1. The best book I’ve read this year is the Steve Jobs biography. It’s the only biography I’ve ever read but I enjoyed reading it and learning more about Apple’s iconic founder. Plus I’m a self confessed Apple geek, so of course this book was on my birthday gift list lol.

  2. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky – I originally downloaded it to my kindle for my daughter to read, in the end I enjoyed it far more than she did.

  3. I’ve read 230 books this year and you want me to choose *one*? Seriously?

The best series I’ve read, which I would highly recommend to you when Fysh gets a bit older is the Mysterious Benedict Society (https://www.goodreads.com/series/40996-the-mysterious-benedict-society).

The best individual fiction book that’s not part of a series (which is important because I’ve read the first book of a few and they were awesome) is the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8013752-the-guernsey-literary-and-potato-peel-pie-society).

The best individual non-fiction book I’ve read this year is the Abacus and the Cross (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7960519-the-abacus-and-the-cross)

  4. I’m not entering because I’ve already read Rainfall but I wanted to say too who are entering… you really really really DO want to read this book, it is FABULOUS!

  5. My favorite book this year has been “The Life of Pi”. I hadn’t heard of it until I saw the movie, but I read it as soon as I could.

Life of Pi isn’t just a survival story – it explores the essence of human nature through a circumstance so extreme, most of us will never have to face this part of ourselves during our lifetime. I found it very moving and its the type of story I will re-read and re-watch again and again.

The movie is truly a good adaptation of the book. Unlike many movies, it doesn’t take many liberties with the story. The book and movie complement each other well.

  6. Without a doubt the best book is The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes. It was one of those books you dive right into, head first with no thought of where you are going to be taken. I read it while overseas on holiday – and was devastated when I finished it on day 2!! Rainfall looks great too, will definitely make a plan to get my hands on it!

  7. Like Gaelyn above, my fave read this year is DEFINITELY The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes – awesome to see such great writing coming out of SA and would love to read this too! Like, followed and tweeted :)

  8. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. He writes beautifully. The movie did not do it justice. Locally, I also enjoyed The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes.

  9. My favourite book that I have read so far is ‘Two kisses for Maddy – Matthew Logelin’. This memoir had me in tears for the best part of 2 days……

  10. iam a new 1st time mom so all the books ive been reading are baby or baby related books – iam in love with the book Minus Nine to One by Jools Oliver – (The diary of an honest mom) ( Whos Hubby is The chef Jamie Oliver ) laughed cried reading this book such an honest read about motherhood and pregnancy – any expecting new moms out there get ur self a copy for a good laugh/cry
